The Limina Award is divided into three sections:

• Best Italian film studies book
• Best Italian translation of an important contribution to film studies
• Best international film studies book  

The Best Italian film studies book and the Best Italian translation of an important contribution to film studies are awarded by CUC – Consulta Universitaria del Cinema – an association, headed by Giulia Carluccio, which gathers the professors of film studies from all Italian universities.

The Best international film studies book is awarded by the Editorial Board of Cinéma & Cie. International Film Studies Journal, whose members are renowned Italian and international scholars.
