Starting from Field’s, Vogler’s and McKee’s works, I intend to individuate and discuss the essential features of contemporary teaching screenwriting: 1) Aristotelian roots (the three-act structure as the core of the narration); 2) specificity (how does the three-act structure apply to cinema?); 3) normativity (how can a narrative film break the Aristotelian rules?) 4) creativity (is teaching screenwriting a sort of teaching creativity?); 5) historical dimension (how do screenwriting’s practices evolve within film history?).
